Ollie, as we call him, is as sweet as they come. I know, you might be thinking, "Geez, she kind of sounds like a broken record!" And, maybe I do but it's only because the truth of the matter is the Malagasy Coton de Tulear is indeed one of the sweetest breeds we have ever had the pleasure of having in our family. Some, like Ollie, are more sweet than others, but they all share that ability to make us smile contentedly and just feel so in love with them.
When we decided that a male Coton should join the family we did a intensive search for a male puppy that could grow into a great stud dog for our girls. And not only that, but as importantly, be a positive addition to the family pack. Our search led us to Pamlico Cotons...like our Maggie, he was black and white when he was born, but changed to a tri-color as the weeks wore on. I liked the fact that Ollie's father was a black and white and his mother, a tri-color, knowing that this would help contribute to genetic diversity in future litters.
And so Ollie arrived at our home mid-December, already a crazy time as Bunny was pregnant with her first litter. As with Sophie, Ollie proved himself to be quite the diplomat, playing with all of the other dogs, and even made friends with our senior citizen, Cooper, our neutered Havanese (who can be a bit cranky!) As a puppy he bonded well with all of the girls enticing them to play and allowing them to be "the boss." The Newfs thought he was pretty fun as well...so far, so good.
Now, as I write this, he is 2 years old. Ollie has his own little harem and, thankfully, the girls all adore him. To date he has sired 2 wonderful litters so he is considered to be a proven stud. We are truly so pleased with the temperaments of the puppies he has produced, and we feel confident that Ollie will continue to give us puppies that we can be proud to call Happy Creek Cotons.
Living with a male Coton has convinced me that what my breeder friend says to be true..."The girls love you, but the boys, well, they're in love with you!" At night when watching TV he will jump into my chair, roll over on his back as relaxed as a rag doll and doze while I give him bellyrubs. He doesn't ever demand attention, just being happy as can be when it's his turn in our lap. I must honestly say, after experiencing life with a both Coton boys and girls, we have the best that life has to offer.
