Bunny

Our first Malagasy Coton de Tulear, Bunny, came into our lives as a ray of light. She was so little in size but so big in spirit! Just a bit over 2 pounds and every ounce filled with joy. We were smitten! Bunny lived up to her name, hopping just like a rabbit around our yard. She would find a bug in the lawn and she would come to a dead stop, staring at the ground and then diving, nose first into the grass! If a butterfly fluttered by her she would chase it until losing sight of it and then look around wondering where in the world it had gone. We spent a large part of our day giggling at her antics. This is one of the things you will end up doing with your Coton as well!
Over the past years Bunny has grown into a bigger version of that sweet, funny ball of fluff. Now 12.5 pounds, she still hops around the yard a good bit and will probably always be a bug hunter! She continues to make us laugh and we love her and her antics. Bunny has made friends with all her four-legged "siblings" and we will often watch as she runs with our Newfies. She has figured out that if she runs and turns, and runs and turns, she can outrun them despite their size...Bunny is one smart cookie!
One of the reasons we decided we wanted to breed Bunny was that she seems born to be a Mom. After Bunny's heat she appears to experience a false pregnancy. She will spend hours in my closet nestled under a shelf sleeping. She doesn't eat as much and eventually finds dog toys that become her "babies." Her favorites are her two rubber duckies. She carries them around and takes them back to my closet to watch over them. This lasts a week or two and then she returns to her old ways. And true to this behavior, Bunny is a wonderful Mom. Attentive, loving, gentle during the early weeks and as they grow she slowly shows them what she considers appropriate puppy behavior which helps to mold them into the future furballs that will be loved and adored by a family of their own.
Bunny eats every bite of her food and spends her days alternating playing fetch and taking naps with Cooper, Sophie, Maggie and when she's feeling flirty, with Ollie! Bunny is so good at retrieving that sometimes I think she's part Lab! At the end of her day, she's up in my lap and she does the sweetest thing. She will position herself so she can snuggle against my chest near my heart. It is just the best feeling!

Sophia

The next Coton to enter our lives was Sophie. From the first day she seemed as if she had been a part of the family pack for years, instead of days. Confident and secure she fit right in with the rest of the dogs. Smart little ball of fluff that she was (and remains!) she wasn't a bit afraid of the big dogs (Of course, Newfies may be big but they are also known as Gentle Giants) and she had the appropriate puppy behavior with them. She fell in love with Tilly (our female Newfie) and Tilly fell in love with her so they spent a lot of time together cuddled up, Sophie almost disappearing under all of Tilly's hair and go to sleep, so adorable!
One of the funniest things Sophie would do as a puppy is what people call run like h*#l! It was so funny seeing her tuck her tail and begin to run like a wild woman in circles around the couch, the dogs, or wherever her energy takes her! It's makes us grin from ear to ear. She also seemed to love being underneath things. One night I didn't see her around the family room so I visited each room in the house and still no Sophie. Returning to the family room I see Sophie's head popped out from underneath the ottoman as if to say, "Hi Mom, what's up?!!" It was so funny!
Today Sophie has continued her love of running. There is nothing she would rather do than play chase with the other dogs. Despite the Newfs being 10 times her size, she has no fear and excels at zipping around the yard, darting in and out of position and turning on a dime (something a 135 lb Newf isn't exactly good at!) So far no one has been able to catch her, though they love to try. One day Sophie snuck under the fence and ended up in the back field with three horses...when we saw where she was we panicked, worried for her safety. The next thing we knew Sophie was running in circles with one of the horses playing chase! Thankfully her speed once more saved her and soon she retreated to the safety of our yard.
Sophie adores everyone, four or two leggers. We love that she plays with all of the dogs whether they are but a month or two old, or the senior citizen in the house, our Havanese Cooper. Gentle, loving and kind to Bunny's puppies she also enjoys spending time with our Grandkitties, Eli and George. Sophie is very much like that song..."Girls Just Want to Have Fun!" She is simply so easy going and has the most incredibly soft hair making petting her a peaceful and relaxing experience.

Maggie

If you could dream up a the most perfect Malagasy Coton de Tulear, you would have our sweet Maggie. Everything about Maggie is just charming. Her conformation is exquisite. And she has the personality to match it. Maggie has been easy going from the get go...choosing to play with Sophie, closest to her in age and size. They truly love one another and can play, wrestle, chase and snuggle for hours. When we added Ollie to our family, he joined the twosome in all kinds of adventures. There is nothing like watching them all play with one another, run together, their long hair moving with them as they sail across the grass, and snuggling up to one another nestled together sound asleep.
Being the perfect dog seems to be Maggie's goal! She loves (and I mean LOVES) to run into her crate at night, cozying up to her fuzzy with her little head resting on her bed. In the morning she is so (and I mean SO!) excited to see you, it's as if you have been gone not a night, but a year. I think Maggie would be the teachers pet if she attended school...she is happy to do what we ask and has figured out the way to our hearts is to climb in our laps, and up a little higher so that her body is nestled against ours and she lays her sweet head on us and we simply melllllltttttttt!
As you can see in her photos Maggie is quite a unique Coton de Tulear. A tri-color like her Mom, she was born black and white, but a week or two later you could see the bits of brownish red appearing. To this day Maggie has kept some of that same color on her ears and tail. She has wonderful markings having more color than any other tri-color Coton I have seen (most tri-colors fade to a cream or white color.) Although her features are delicate in appearance, she is actually quite strong and sturdy like all Malagasy Coton de Tulears. Maggie is the complete package...beautiful, sweet, charming, fun-loving and simply, so, so, cute!!!
